You really can't go wrong with the 50mm. If you need a nice, all-around portrait lens, then this is perfect for your kit. Even though I don't use this lens everyday, each time I use it, I remember how great of a lens it is. 
 
Glass is clean, no dents or scratches and has always had a clear filter on it.
